A 58-year-old man with a 6-month-old right transtibial amputation presents to the outpatient prosthetics clinic for evaluation of his new clear thermoplastic check socket. He reports discomfort and burning pins-and-needles pain over the proximal lateral aspect of his residual limb after walking for several minutes, referred distally into the phantom dorsolateral aspect of his absent foot.
