A 58-year-old man with a 6-month-old right transtibial amputation presents to the outpatient prosthetics clinic for evaluation of his new clear thermoplastic check socket. He reports discomfort and a pins-and-needles sensation along the dorsolateral aspect of his prosthetic foot after walking for several minutes.
